It's the simple things that matter: An evaluation of the Banksia host-home respite program

1 Nov 2001
Description

The “host-home” program, which operates as part of Banksia Respite Services in Carrum Downs, Victoria, is designed to assist full-time carers of older people who have dementia. Paid workers take two or three older people into their own homes for up to six hours. The report found that the program enabled better access to respite for people who experienced barriers to attending centre-based programs, and allowed for individual tailoring of personal care. It recommended that guidelines and standards appropriate to host-home programs be established to ensure quality of care and to protect paid staff and service users.
