The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of the regulatory environment in Victoria, how it relates to automated vehicles and our plans to make changes to the regulatory framework that will support the testing and development of highly automated vehicle technology.

VicRoads wants to hear from organisations and individuals who are working on the development and testing of automated vehicle technology, as well as those who have a direct interest in how automated vehicle trials are regulated.

The consultation will work within the National Transport Commission’s framework to establish nationally consistent guidelines across Australia for automated vehicle trials, which will also inform Victoria’s future policies on automated vehicles.
