Prime Ministers have long turned to a big vision when trying to shore up their stocks with voters or their own party. That usually means throwing their support behind big infrastructure projects, like fast trains or second airports.
$75 billion has been committed to infrastructure in the 2017 budget over the next ten years - to build, among others things, the long-debated airport for Western Sydney, as well as an inland rail link between Melbourne and Brisbane.
But should we be sceptical about the political commitment and financing for these new nation building projects?
Infrastructure Projects Australia CEO, Brendan Lyon, says further detail is needed on both the Western Sydney airport and the inland rail. Lyon says the Commonwealth had limited options for sharing or exposing private investors to risk in the project. He says it was understandable the states were complaining about the infrastructure dollars allocated in the budget because most of the spending is "beyond the out years".
