Australian media unites to support media law reform

31 May 2017

Some of the biggest players in Australian media will launch a bid today to convince the Senate to pass the federal government's long waited media reform package. In an unprecedented show of industry unity, more than 25 top CEOs from all the major newspaper groups and commercial television and radio networks will join forces to campaign for the biggest changes to the media laws in more than two decades.

But they're facing stiff opposition to a key change — the abolition of the "two-out-of-three rule" — which prevents media companies dominating a single market. The proposed new laws were drawn up by Federal Communications Minister, Mitch Fifield.
