Anne Mitchell

Description

Anne Mitchell is a community development worker and an adult educator with over twenty years experience in the field of sexual health. She has a background in secondary teaching and adult education and has been working in the field of sexuality education, sexual health and STI prevention for twenty years. This included a period in the Victorian Health Department where she was responsible for HIV/AIDS prevention education and policy development. She was a founding staff member of the Australian Research Centre In Sex, Health and Society where she set up and managed the Community Liaison and Education Unit for getting Centre research into policy and practice. She has also been part of the research team on the last three five-yearly studies of Secondary Students and Sexual Health, the two Writing Themselves In studies of same sex attracted young people and the two Private Lives studies of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Australia.. She has had extensive experience in the area of sex education in schools, including developing the national curriculum package and support materials Talking Sexual Health, the Safety In our Schools training programs for teachers, and the Catching On and Catching On Early teacher training programs for Victorian secondary and primary teachers. She is currently working on a revision of the Talking Sexual Health materials. She was the inaugural Director of Gay and Lesbian Health Victoria and was Deputy Chair of the inaugural Victorian Ministerial Advisory Committee On Gay and Lesbian Health.
