Coal ash is one of Australia’s biggest waste problems, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the entire nation’s waste stream. It is toxic and, if not strictly disposed of, can contaminate air, soil and water and lead to serious health and environmental impacts.
This report estimates the health burden of air pollution from individual coal-fired power stations in NSW. It is significant new research made possible by recent studies of particle characterisation and atmospheric transport of pollution.
