Withdrawing health resources from existing healthcare practices, procedures, technologies, or pharmaceuticals that are deemed to deliver little or no health gain for their cost is growing as a priority for international health policy. The term disinvestment in health care is gaining prominence internationally.

Challenges in Australian policy processes for disinvestment from existing, ineffective health care practices

Internationally, many health care interventions were diffused prior to the standard use of assessments of safety, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. This paper examines key challenges for disinvestment from these interventions and explores potential policy-related avenues to advance a disinvestment agenda.
