In May 2006, PLR payments totalling just over $7 million were made to 8923 eligible creators and publishers in respect of the 2005?06 fi nancial year. In addition, $10.408 million was distributed under the Educational Lending Right scheme for 2005?06. In addition to providing recompense to creators and publishers, the schemes create a wealth of information about the holdings of public and educational libraries. Many librarians use the publicly available data as part of their collection development activities.
