Aboriginal deaths in custody in Western Australian prisons

This article provides an overview of the nature and adequacy of culturally appropriate health services within Western Australian prisons based on coroner findings on Aboriginal deaths in custody between 2019 to 2023. The findings reported substandard quality of supervision, care and treatment. The article calls for implementation of recommendations from Australian government inquiries.

This scoping review aimed to identify and analyse best practices that integrate environmental health initiatives and primary healthcare within Indigenous populations. The findings demonstrate the value of implementing connections between environmental and primary healthcare services in improving Indigenous health.

This paper explores the inclusion and representation of cultural medicines across national level policies and practice guidelines for health professionals. It finds that clearer policy guidance, resources and training for all Australian health professionals to engage with cultural medicines are required to uphold cultural safety and the rights of Australia’s First Peoples.

This article describes a research approach where principles of Indigenous methodology guide application of implementation science methods to generate, implement and evaluate local solutions from the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The co-design phase collected critical insights regarding community needs, challenges and service gaps, and identified shortfalls in local strategic policy.
