Description

The number of couples and individuals seeking assisted reproductive technology to achieve pregnancy, and birth is expected to rise significantly over the coming decade. Australia and New Zealand have two of the safest and most successful assisted reproductive technology and IVF programs in the world. The primary goal of these programs is to allow as many couples and individuals to conceive safely, who might otherwise not be able to do so.

This 10-year roadmap charts a national plan for fertility care in Australia based on four pillars: governance, safety and efficacy, access, and research and technology. It provides 35 recommendations.

Key recommendations

  • A national fertility plan and uniform fertility law.
  • A national donor registry and bank.
  • A 10-year Medical Research Future Fund fertility mission.
  • Expanded carrier screening and preimplantation genetic testing access.
