The objective of this audit was to assess whether the selected entities’ administration of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) requests is effective in giving the community access to Australian Government information. Six recommendations were made to the audited entities to improve their administration of FOI Act requests.

Effectiveness of the Commonwealth Home Support Program


The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) has provided entry‑level aged care services to people in their homes to assist them to live safely and independently. This audit examined the effectiveness of the CHSP. The audit found the CHSP is partly effective. It provides recommendations to improve planning, monitoring, stakeholder engagement, assurance, performance measurement and evaluation.

The Settlement Engagement and Transition Support program is an early intervention program intended to contribute to humanitarian entrants and other eligible vulnerable migrants and communities. The audit reports on the effectiveness of the management of the grants in achieving the program objectives. It finds program performance has been mixed in a number of areas.

Suicide prevention policy development and monitoring


Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 44 years. From 2022–23 to 2025–26, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing administered 41 suicide prevention measures. This report finds that four to five years after several national agreements, objectives to reduce suicide have not been achieved.

Administration of the age pension


The age pension is the government’s means tested income support for eligible seniors. It is a significant component of Australian Government expenditure. This audit provides assurance to Parliament on the Department of Social Services’ (DSS) and Services Australia's administration of the age pension. It finds the DSS’s oversight of the age pension is partly effective.
