This qualitative study interviewed refugees in Melbourne and explored how they perceived family, the impact of separation and the impact of the Australian government’s policy regarding family reunion on refugees living in Australia.

This paper looks at why the environmental aspect of the study of migration and refugees has been neglected. It proposes a definition of population movements induced by environmental factors, before concentrating on climate aspects by providing a synthesis of results put forward by researchers and examining forecasts for future developments.

The Refugee Convention, of which Australia is a signatory, has been criticised for its narrow definition of a refugee, which restricts the convention's protection to that facing "persecution" in their home country. This paper proposes a new legal definition of a refugee premised on the non-violability of an individual's "human security."
