'A violation of his or her human security': New grounds for the recognition of refugee status


The Refugee Convention, of which Australia is a signatory, has been criticised for its narrow definition of a refugee, which restricts the convention's protection to that facing "persecution" in their home country. This paper proposes a new legal definition of a refugee premised on the non-violability of an individual's "human security."
