This inquiry reviewed parliamentary practice and procedure to implement recommendations 10 and 27 of the 2021 'Set the standard' report. These recommendations related to eliminating sexist, exclusionary or discriminatory language, behaviour and practices in the Chamber, and improving safety and respect.

Question Time is a long-standing tradition that remains a valuable forum for scrutiny of the executive. While opinions differed on how Question Time could be improved, this inquiry found there is a need for enhanced accountability, better questions and answers, and a higher standard of behaviour from our parliamentarians.

This report examines parliamentary standing orders, identifying some minor technical irregularities that can be addressed in the shorter term, as well as a number of potential Clerk’s amendments to be made administratively.
