This report argues that access to digital technology for legal purposes has not kept up with changes in the community and the courts. The gap is widening, and this has the potential to cause unnecessary pressure in the justice system.

This report has been prepared following an inspection of Casuarina Prison, conducted in late 2016. It concludes that the prison is meeting reasonable expectations in relation to security and the safety of staff and prisoners. However, it is over-stretched at almost every point.

Managing young people in detention will always be difficult. Almost all the young people who are held at Banksia Hill face complex layers of dysfunction, disengagement. This review discusses behaviour management practices at Banksia Hill and the impact of the transformation project.
