The purpose of this briefing paper is to consider the capability and utility of contemporary Russian forces in relation to Vladimir Putin’s strategic goals. Specifically, this paper examines the critical role played by Russia’s 'new look' military force in the realization of Moscow’s political goals via complex strategic coercion.
