Social Ventures Australia (SVA) asked the Mitchell Institute to conduct a literature review on the effectiveness of policies, programs, practices and interventions aimed at strengthening educational and wellbeing outcomes for people highly disengaged from education, employment and training.

This report finds one in eight Australians will never attain a Year 12 qualification, and some of these people make up the one in eight Australians who will be disengaged from the workforce for most of their lives.

This study examined the tangible and intangible 12 month outcomes achieved by disadvantaged young people participating in an alternative learning program in regional Australia. It combined desk research, qualitative interviews and psychosocial measures to assess the program’s effectiveness.
