This report looks at four case studies, qualitative interviews and expert literature, to highlight important transnational dimensions of right-wing violent extremism, as well as expanding the way governments understand the threat and craft policy responses to it.

Terrorism and violent extremism in all forms represents a serious threat to Australia’s national security. This strategy outlines the framework in which governments, the private sector, civil society, academia and the community will work together to unite against the harms of terrorism and violent extremism.

This paper analyses the interplay between far-right and far-left groups in the state of Victoria, Australia, across a range of social media platforms. It provides an analysis of over 400,000 tweets produced by a sample of 151 far-left and 75 far-right Australian Twitter accounts since 2016.

The ways that online funding mechanisms can be exploited by individuals and groups promoting right-wing extremist ideology in Australia are an emerging problem. This paper argues that any response must include strong policies and programs to address the drivers of such extremism.
