Provision of supported accommodation services for people with disabilities are in a state of flux, as new ways of funding and delivering services are implemented as part of National Disability Insurance Scheme. The focus of this review is group homes and people with intellectual disabilities who are the biggest group of people using these services.

This research report focuses on the supports NDIS participants use to build their capacity to work towards their home and living goals. The research is part of work to develop a new approach to home and living.

Yooralla’s experience indicates that the ‘Pathways to Home’ Program is a successful model for supporting people to live in a home-like environment while awaiting permanent supports.

This research report was commissioned and funded by the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. The report analyses evidence of outcomes associated with ‘inclusive’, ‘segregated’ and ‘integrated’ settings as they apply to the safeguarding of people with disability in accommodation and community living, employment and education.

In October to November 2022, the Housing Hub ran a series of workshops designed to gather collective knowledge about SDA-funded group homes from providers and stakeholders. This report provides background to the workshops and discusses the main findings and recommendations.
