This report paints the clearest picture yet of the true burden of lung cancer in Australia, now and over the next decade. It hones in on the confronting challenges facing those living with lung cancer and outlines solutions to improve outcomes that are currently far from what is possible.

Digestive-tract cancers are estimated to account for about 2 in 10 of all cancers diagnosed and nearly 3 in 10 cancer deaths. A person’s chance of surviving depends on the type of digestive-tract cancer.

This is the first report from an Australian-first project combining data from the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, BreastScreen Australia, and the National Cervical Screening Program. Screen-detected breast, cervical and bowel cancers were less likely to cause death than non-screen-detected cancers, with analyses also revealing novel patterns in screening behaviour.
