The Social Services Legislation Amendment (Drug Testing Trial) Bill 2018 (Bill) establishes a mandatory drug testing trial of 5000 recipients of Newstart Allowance and Youth Allowance (Other) in Canterbury-Bankstown, New South Wales; Logan, Queensland and Mandurah, Western Australia.

Trial participants who test positive to an illicit drug specified as part of the trial will be placed on income management for a period of 24 months and those who return two positive drug tests in the 24 month period may be required to submit to drug treatment.
