Additive manufacturing: technology, applications, markets, and opportunities for the built environment

This paper aims to provide a comprehensive and evidence-based baseline along with progresses in relevant disciplines related to 3DP in construction, which will provide an opportunity to experts in all domains to understand the multi-dimensional constraints and to specify the future research directions in these sectors.

IT-based control and assessment of partnering relations in construction projects

This paper presents a digital system for controlling and assessing partnering relations during the carrying out of construction projects, called “B-rel”. The study shows that developing partnering relations in construction projects has the greatest carryover to benefits concerning their time and cost.

Modular approach to multi-objective environmental optimization of buildings

The application of heuristic algorithms with life cycle assessment (LCA) is a promising approach to efficiently optimize the building and minimize the environmental impact even in a very large design space. Through the optimization, significant environmental savings of 60–80% were achieved compared to the initial design options showing the potential for the application of such...

Evaluation of BIM-based LCA results for building design

Various tools that use a Building Information Modelling (BIM) model for automatic quantity take-off as a basis for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) have been developed recently. This paper describes the first application of such a BIM-LCA tool to evaluate the embodied global warming potential (GWP) throughout the whole design process of a real building.
