Does good urban design pay – and if so, how? This was the simple question the Property Council of Australia asked in supporting this research report. The answer is startlingly simple. The Design Dividend project set out to link good urban design to good financial returns and it demonstrated full correlation between the two factors. The Property Council called for nominations of well designed projects from across Australia. A national design selection team was formed. From the pool of nominations received, the team chose eight leading developments across a range of categories, in the strength of their urban qualities alone – working through a series of rigorous design study and selection rounds. These were then scrutinised by an independent development finance expert. The resulting designs are the case studies included in the research report.
