The brief maps Australia’s changing approach to migrant grandparents, including a proposed temporary sponsored parent visa. It explores how Australia’s migration regime shapes grandparent childcare available in migrant communities, consequences for migrant mothers’ workplace participation, as well as gendered risks of vulnerability and precarity for grandparents.
This policy brief was produced as part of the ARC Discovery Project Markets, Migration and the Work of Care in Australia and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Partnership Grant Gender, Migration and the Work of Care.
