Description

The Maranguka Justice Reinvestment Project is the first major justice reinvestment project occurring in Australia, in the small town of Bourke in NSW.

Commissioned by Just Reinvest NSW and completed pro bono, the report provides new stakeholders with a comprehensive overview of activities undertaken during the first two years of justice reinvestment in Bourke up to June 2016.

It also notes the Aboriginal community governance model used in the Project strategically aligns with New South Wales and Australian Government aspirations for improving economic and social conditions in Aboriginal communities and realising community priorities.

Just Reinvest NSW will commission another report in 12-18 months to analyse the projected government savings resulting from implementation of the justice reinvestment approach in Bourke, coupled with potential mechanisms for reinvestment.
