Description

Identity crime involving the misuse of personal information affects a large number of Australians each year, as well as businesses and government agencies. The financial and non-financial consequences experienced by victims are considerable, and data indicate identity crime continues to increase in Australia.

This report is the fourth in a series designed to assess the prevalence, nature and impact of identity crime and misuse in Australia. It presents data from Commonwealth, state and territory agencies, as well as from the private sector and other non-government sources. The Australian Institute of Criminology, within the Home Affairs portfolio, is responsible for compiling and publishing this information as a key initiative of the National Identity Security Strategy.
