Urban renewal is on the agenda for the State and Australian Governments.  But what is urban renewal and how does it work?

In this paper, Anglicare is seeking to start a discussion about urban renewal and what it might mean, especially for Tasmania. The paper explores some of the assumptions that urban renewal rests upon and looks at the extensive body of research that has been built up on these issues over the last twenty years or more.  It also looks at the way in which urban renewal has been implemented overseas and on the mainland, where this approach is more advanced than in Tasmania.
