Local and sustainable food program 676.22 KB
Description

The Surf Coast Shire has developed a Local Food Program which has explored issues and opportunities related to sustainable local food production, distribution and value-adding in the context of climate change. The Program has provided the foundation upon which to build a more resilient agriculture sector and support and improve the local food economy in our region and to help farmers transition to a future of climate change. Specifically, the project has highlighted issues and opportunities facing local producers in a changing climate and key directions for Council and the community in areas of economic viability, enhancing community wellbeing and improving sustainable agriculture practices.

The Local and Sustainable Food Program has built on the Surf Coast Shire Edible Landscapes Initiatives to enhance the food economy in the context of climate change. The project has provided Council with key directions and actions on how to grow the local food economy in consideration of identified opportunities and risks.
