Description
Safe, secure housing is fundamental to people’s health and wellbeing. People experiencing homelessness or situations placing them at risk of homelessness are supported by specialist homelessness services (SHS). This report summarises the characteristics of clients receiving support from SHS throughout 2023–24, including the services requested, outcomes achieved and unmet requests for services.
The report provides state and territory summary data and fact sheets and includes a breakdown of client and service geography.
Findings
- 280,100 clients were assisted by SHS agencies in 2023–24 and more than 1.7 million clients since 2011–12.
- Almost two-thirds of SHS clients in 2023–24 had received SHS assistance at some point since the collection began in 2011.
- Around one-third (31%) of clients who needed short-term or emergency accommodation did not receive this service.
- Around 2 in 5 SHS clients had experienced family and domestic violence.
