This release contains summary business characteristics data, as collected by the 2011-12 Business Characteristics Survey (BCS). It presents data on a selection of topics including nature of business ownership, collaborative arrangements, franchising agreements, performance measures, barriers, government financial assistance, finance sought, innovation, business use of information technology, skills, markets and competition.

Associated with this release are a detailed set of data cubes that include data for these topics, cross classified (where possible) by innovator status; business size (based on employment); and industry.
