This study was originally conceived as a way of better understanding the promise and practice of evaluation across Australia. The study considers four key focus areas regarding the practice of evaluation in Australia - volume, drivers, approaches and trends. The study did not specifically consider the quality of evaluations, nor their effectiveness and impact.

This framework was developed through a co-design process with a Reference Group that consisted of members of the Australian Evaluation Society (AES) Indigenous Culture and Diversity Committee and representatives from the other main AES Committees. The main aim of this paper is to outline the development of a culturally safe evaluation.
