This report studies sentencing outcomes from 2010 to 2019 for offenders sentenced when aged 60 and over in Victoria. The report reviews the relevance of age to sentencing and investigates the prevalence of sentenced older offenders in the state.

This is the third and final report in the Council’s series on ‘crossover kids’: sentenced and diverted children known to the Victorian Child Protection Service. The series studied 5,063 children sentenced or diverted in the Children’s Court and identified those who were known to child protection.

The Sentencing Advisory Council has released this second report on ‘crossover kids’, children who have had contact with both the child protection system and the youth justice system. The report finds that the vast majority of children were known to child protection before they committed their first sentenced or diverted offence.
