A growing problem: exploring livestock farm resilience to droughts in unit record data


Climate models indicate that New Zealand’s farms will be increasingly exposed to adverse climate events in the future. In this study, the authors empirically investigate drought impacts on farm enterprises by linking financial, agricultural and productivity data from Statistics New Zealand’s Longitudinal Business Database (LBD) with historical weather data from NIWA.

In this analysis, the face of inequality that we explore is people’s access to new ultra-fast broadband technologies. Such access may be instrumental in improving an individual’s place within society in this digital age.

How did removing student allowances for postgraduate study affect students’ choices?


From 1 January 2013, students in New Zealand who entered postgraduate qualifications other than Honours were no longer eligible to receive student allowances. We use individual-level administrative data, that includes tertiary enrolment information, student allowance receipt, student loan borrowing, and wage earnings, to investigate whether the policy affected students’ choices.
