This report presents findings from the three phase, mixed-methods Quality Improvement Research Project, which investigated the characteristics and internal processes of quality improvement in long day care (LDC) services. The findings reinforce the importance of leadership at all levels of service provision.

This report was commissioned by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as part of the evaluation of CQC’s five-year strategy, and aims to provide an in-depth assessment of the relationship between CQC’s regulatory approach, and improvement in quality of health and social care.

The main objective of this study was to prospectively track episodes for adults with intellectual disability (ID) in Australian hospitals, with a focus on indications of the quality of care provided.
