The findings reveal a complex landscape of health service provision, highlighting both opportunities and challenges for collaborative allied health projects.

This report researches, maps and assesses the extent of disability supports for Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory and the role of Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Services in the disability/NDIS sector. It identifies 6 key issues and 11 ideas for improvement, outlining the significant challenges impacting Aboriginal people with a disability, carers, families and communities.

It looks behind the headline unemployment statistics to reveal that long-term unemployment – as measured by receipt of unemployment payments for over 12 months – is now entrenched at an economically and socially harmful level.

It draws links to labour market and housing market trends, and to social security and affordable housing policy developments. The research investigated the changing scale and nature of the problem and assessed associated policy and practice developments and debates.

Based on 397 responses from disability services, this report found that most providers, despite challenging circumstances, remain resilient and are determined to thrive. The report looks at the cost to the system of high quality providers leaving the market, and considers the way forward to secure to secure the future for disability support services.
