Patterns in the access, utilisation and budget allocation of National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) psychosocial support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with mental health needs

This study explores National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) psychosocial support among Indigenous Australians in South East Queensland, highlighting disparities in access and budget allocation. Findings show higher access for Indigenous participants benefiting those most in need. However, systemic challenges persist including under‑identification, missing utilisation data and housing instability.

Access to preventive health assessments for people with intellectual disability

This scoping review examines the multiple dimensions of access to health assessments; identifying the supply- and demand-side factors that impact access for people with intellectual disability. It concludes that supply-side factors are well-documented, while demand-side factors warrant further investigation and research.

Paramedics’ understandings and perceptions of cultural safety and the provision of culturally safe care

This article reports on qualitative research into paramedics' understanding of culturally safe care, which is thought to assist in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Findings suggest that paramedic practice may not be underpinned by the principles of cultural safety, calling into question the provision of culturally safe care.

“I’m outta here!”: a qualitative investigation into why Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people self-discharge from hospital

The findings in this research article are specific to one acute care hospital in Brisbane, Australia. The insights illuminated by the research may be relevant in other settings, where similar contextual forces have shaped hospital care, but cannot fully account for why all patients self-discharge.
