This paper considers the use of tenure mix in social housing policy. Tenure mix policies aim to reduce neighbourhood problems by mixing the social groups in an urban development. It features in housing policy in Australia, North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom. This paper discusses its history, context, theory and practice, concluding that other factors must be taken into consideration when seeking to alleviate disadvantage.
