Tennant Creek is the regional centre of the Barkly Region of the Northern Territory (NT), located on the Stuart Highway, 508km north of Alice Springs and 990km south of Darwin. The traditional owners of Tennant Creek are the Warumungu people.
Based on 44 surveys and 13 interviews with residents and stakeholders, this report outlines the findings from the researchers' initial 2022 visit, and highlights the current access and use of media, communications and online services and the digital inclusion challenges in Tennant Creek and across the Barkly region.
This report is intended to assist local and regional agencies, including Julalikari, Central Land Council, Northern Land Council and Barkly Regional Council, to better understand the key barriers to digital inclusion in Tennant Creek and the region. It is designed to provide a basis for a local digital inclusion plan. This report will assist in identifying infrastructure and program needs to enable a targeted approach for advocacy with government and industry stakeholders. The report will be updated following research visits in 2023 and 2024.
