Building capacity, creating change
AbSec convened its first regional quarterly sector forum for 2025 from 26–27 February 2025 bringing together stakeholders from the child and family sector to deliberate and shape the future of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child and family sector in New South Wales under the theme ‘Our Future, Our Voice: Building Capacity, Creating Change’. This report provides an overview of the forum.
Key outcomes of the forum included strengthened collective advocacy, shared priorities for reform and a renewed commitment to self-determination as the foundation for policy and practice. The forum created space for critical discussions, including:
- mapping accountability mechanisms in child protection
- relational child protection and out-of-home care (OOHC)
- Aboriginal Community-Controlled Mechanisms (ACCMs)
- Family Dispute Resolution.
