Public attitudes to discrimination in private schools

Publisher
Discrimination Schools Australia
Description

The debate over the 'values' that should be taught in public and private schools has been heated. However, in Australia today private schools have a wide range of exemptions from state anti-discrimination legislation allowing them to expel children on the basis of their sexuality or becuase they are pregnant. Deb Wilkinson, Andrew MacIntosh and Clive Hamilton examine these exemptions, discuss the implications associated with them, and present Newspoll data that suggests that the vast majority of Australians do not believe that private schools should be able to discriminate against Australian children.
