The Oranga Tamariki action plan aims to promote wellbeing for children, young people and families with the greatest needs, by enabling government agencies to work more effectively together and support whānau and communities.

This guidance is designed to enable child welfare and protection agencies, and some independent persons, to request, use and share personal information for specific purposes related to the wellbeing and safety of children.

This exploratory research project was designed to better understand the safety of children/young people in care in New Zealand. It looked at the case files of 698 children and young people in care during 2015/16 and found 85 experienced harm.

Oranga Tamariki aims to put children’s and young people’s needs at the centre. Children and young people need different responses depending on their circumstances and characteristics.
