The proposed Regulatory Standards Bill aims to reduce the amount of unnecessary and poor regulation in New Zealand by increasing transparency and making it clearer where regulation does not meet standards. The proposed Bill has not yet been drafted and views are being sought on a proposal on what it should contain.

This report provides the strategic intentions for the new Ministry for Regulation including the role, purpose, strategic objectives and priorities and outcomes. The Ministry will focus on lifting quality across all regulatory systems and supporting agencies with regulatory responsibilities to align with good practice.
