Screen Australia has released this research into diversity on Australian screens. A follow up to the 2016 study, this report examines the diversity of main characters in 361 scripted Australian TV and online dramas broadcast between 2016 and 2021, how this compares to the Australian population, and what has changed since the previous report.

COVID-19 has presented a novel and unprecedented health and safety challenge to all industries and workplaces. These guidelines have been developed by an Australian Screen Sector Task Force and are intended to provide support and assistance to all practitioners (from screen producers to individual workers) in the Australian screen production industry.

In response to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s ACCC Digital Platforms Inquiry, the government requested that Screen Australia and the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) co-author this options paper considering how to best support Australian stories on our screens in a modern, multi-platform environment.

This paper outlines proposed revisions to Screen Ausralia's documentary funding program, to better support the industry and adapt to changes in the sector. Industry feedback is being sought, with submissions closing 27 October 2019. New guidelines will be published in February 2020, and come into effect from 1 July 2020.

Creating this strategy has provided detailed insights into the experiences of both practitioners and partners in the Australian screen industry. This process has provided an opportunity to review and translate the views of those who engage with the Indigenous Department into a meaningful and well-informed approach for improvement.
