This report finds that transitioning Australia's electricity system to accommodate more renewable energy sources will require greater investment in existing technologies, as well as innovation in new technology solutions to reduce consumer costs further.

To address Australia’s sustainability challenges, the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) has prepared this position paper, which presents three, evidence-based positions on how the minerals and mining industry can support Australia’s sustainability commitments.

This paper argues that Australia needs to design its STEM ecosystem in a manner that ensures we are accounting for the STEM skills we need now, and into the future. Australia's national strategy needs to be robust, evidence-based, promote continual learning, and take a holistic and systems-thinking view of both challenges and opportunities.
