This report highlights the experience of ‘Emma’ (not her real name), who was the victim of significant violence perpetrated by her then partner, who was at the time a serving member of Victoria Police.

A key finding from this inquiry is that where police take photographs of people in contexts outside those specific statutory situations, officers must comply with the Privacy Act and the information privacy principles within it, taking into account the status of digital photographs as sensitive biometric information.
