This is the second edition of a bitesize Health Performance Council report pinpointing potential health inequalities by analysing South Australian public hospital data, looking for hospitalisations that are potentially preventable, variation by where people live in the state, and opportunities to improve.

The report covers adverse events reported by New Zealand's 20 district health boards (DHBs) and other providers. Adverse events (previously referred to as serious and sentinel events) are events which have generally resulted in harm to patients. This report details adverse events in DHBs in the year 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.

More than 1,000 Aboriginal people shared their experiences of care in emergency departments and as admitted patients in NSW public hospitals.

Focusing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, this report shows how rates of potentially preventable hospitalisations, potentially avoidable deaths and Indigenous health checks vary geographically within each Australian state and territory and between Primary Health Networks.

Hospital admissions have risen faster than population growth, and last financial year saw a rise in influenza related hospitalisations, according to this report. There were also relatively high rates of admissions classified as potentially preventable in 2017–18.
