In this paper, the Business Council of Australia examines the systemic structural, cultural and economic barriers that still exist in childcare, Paid Parental Leave (PPL), superannuation and acquiring skills, that all have direct economic consequences on women’s future economic security.

Art has the power to illuminate inequities, generate discussion, give voice to and empower women, and motivate community action. Throughout this project, the potential for local government to promote gender equality through arts-based initiatives was evident.

This report asserts that one key mechanism to support governments in realising their gender equity strategy is gender responsive budgeting (GRB). The authors argue that GRB enables decision-makers, administrators and the public to evaluate how policy decisions are contributing to a government’s gender equity strategy.

This publication presents fact-based information to raise awareness of the status of Western Australian women. It contributes to the evidence base which underpins actions to address the barriers to women’s progress and promote the benefits of greater gender equity.

This report coincided with the 15-year review of KiwiSaver by the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (NZ). The intent of the report is to assist policy-makers by deliberately exploring and providing opportunities to get more equitable settings in place.
