Advancing the Victorian Treaty process: annual report 2024–25


This report provides an update on the progress and achievements of statewide Treaty negotiations between the First Peoples’ Assembly and the Victorian Government. The Victorian Government has been progressing Treaty for nearly a decade. The Treaty negotiations are on track to agree Australia’s first Treaty in 2025.

Unlike Canada and South Africa, Australia has not completed a national Truth-telling of First Nations histories. As a consequence, the curriculum is at risk of excluding Truth-telling, leading to indoctrination of past injustices as part of school learning. This research critically examines the use of Truth-telling language in the Australian Curriculum.
