It examined self-defence, provocation to assault, killing on provocation, killing for preservation in an abusive domestic relationship and domestic discipline. It also considered reforms to practices or procedures relating to those defences or excuses. The report makes 36 recommendations.

This factsheet reports on the number of people sentenced in Victorian courts in 2023–24 for committing a serious offence while serving a community correction order. Serious offences include serious violent offences and sexual offences. The three most common serious offences were: make threat to kill, aggravated burglary and make threat to inflict serious injury.
