This report summarises the findings of consultation on proposed changes to Star Ratings for aged care services in Australia. Star Ratings help people compare services, support providers to understand their performance and drive quality improvement. The consultation findings focus on three key areas: compliance rating, staffing rating and Star Ratings evaluation.

This article explores the use of ratings in regulatory contexts and outlines why ratings are a useful tool for regulators as well as for consumer protection, using three examples of ratings programs in action.

Completed and submitted to the Australian Government in May 2020, this report was made publicly available in March 2023.
