This report presents data on the number of young people released from a supervised youth justice sentence who then returned – that is, young people who received another supervised sentence after the end of their first, or index sentence. Supervised sentences include both community-based and detention sentences.

This report is the first output of a project providing young people, with recent lived experience of the Tasmanian youth justice system, an opportunity to share their views on how this system works and to have those views listened to and taken seriously by the community and government decision-makers.

This report sets out the findings of a series of linked studies drawing together evidence about place-based approaches to reduce youth violence. The project was commissioned by the Youth Endowment Fund (UK) to support their key strategic work using place-based approaches.

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability commissioned this research to improve understanding of the pathways that lead children with disability from their contact with child protection system to entering the criminal justice system.

With a focus on prevention and early intervention, this strategy document offers a whole-of-government approach to acknowledge the positive contribution of young Territorians, while recognising the dedicated services, investment and policies needed across government and non-government sector to enhance the lives of young people in the Territory.
